Wolcott – Shirley R. (Goodblood) Dancer, 89 passed away on March 13, 2017. She was the wife of the late Harold (Sam) Dancer for 50 years.

Shirley was born in Portage Lake Maine, on July 7, 1927, the oldest of eight children of the late Marshall and Emily (Pinette) Goodblood. She graduated from Madawaka Training School (now the University of Maine) in 1946. She taught school in Maine before moving to Connecticut in 1967, then received her Master’s Degree from University of Central CT. After a 40 year teaching career, she retired from the town of Wolcott as a Reading Consultant. She was a member of the Farmingbury Woman’s Club, CEA, NEA, ARTC, CARR, and St. Pius X Parish in Wolcott, and a past member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Shirley leaves behind two children, Patricia Dancer of Waterbury, and Daniel Dancer and his wife Donna, of Wolcott. Also four grandchildren, James Bookman and his wife Lisa, Tammy Cameron and her husband Dave, Krystle Dancer-Longo and her husband Jason, and Heather Dancer. Great grandchildren, Christopher Maringola, Erik DiDomizio, Kyle Pelletier all of Wolcott, Emma Leigh Longo of Prospect, and Emily Cameron of Arizona. Shirley was extremely proud of her family. She also leaves behind, a brother Arthur Goodblood of Indiana and two sisters, Gail Goodblood and Judy Huntley of Maine.

She enjoyed teaching, traveling, and gardening. She will be remembered for the love and support of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her enjoyment of helping children learn, as teaching was her joy and passion.

Shirley was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Jean Dancer, and siblings Gerald, Reginald, Cleveland, and Marion Goodblood.

A celebration of her life will take place from 5 to 8 PM on March 24, 2017, at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Garland, Maine.
