Terryville -Joanne (Shields) Lyons, 73, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Lyons, of Quincy, MA.

Joanne was born in Philadelphia, PA, on March 7, 1944, daughter of the late James H. Shields and Helen C. (Donovan) Shields. She attended Weymouth Public School and Sacred Heart School. Joanne met Richard in 1960 at the original Howard Johnson’s Restaurant in Quincy Square. They married on February 4, 1962 at the Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth, MA.

Joanne enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Richard. They shared great memories of Las Vegas, Canada, and Foxwoods. She loved to cook for her family. Her grandchildren were her world. She loved to take them shopping and out to dinner. They never said no to a free meal. Proud of her Irish heritage, Joanne loved to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. She was also an avid Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots fan.

Joanne leaves behind her 4 children, Stephen Lyons, and his wife, Robin, of New Milford; Lynn Viscosi, and her husband, Louis, of Wolcott; Lisa LaRose, of Vernon, and her friend, James Brown; and Richard Lyons, and his fiancée, Penny, of Wethersfield; 6 grandchildren, John and Laura Lyons; Alexandria and Victoria Viscosi; and Brittany and Jessica LaRose; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; her lifelong friend, Terry Duffy; and her Terryville friends, Sue, Walter, Debbie and Tom.

Including her husband of 50 years, Richard, Joanne was predeceased by her brother, Francis X. Shields and sister, Eileen R. Clark.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. A funeral home service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Braintree, MA will be held privately.
