WOLCOTT – Evelyn (VanAken) Bobenski, 96, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Pilgrim Manor, Cromwell. She was the beloved wife of the late Martin Bobenski to whom she was married for 52 years.
Evelyn was born on July 27, 1920, in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Otis and Sadie (Elsensohn) VanAken. She was a longtime communicant of St. Maria Goretti in Wolcott and prior to that at Saints Peter & Paul in Waterbury.
She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, growing beautiful violets, taking walks with friends, and crocheting blankets and hats for charitable organizations. It was her joy to spend time with family and friends telling and listening to stories. Evelyn especially loved sitting outside her cottage at the lake. Lately she loved receiving visits from her family and their dogs. She was an avid fan of all UCONN sports.

She was first employed at Scovill Manufacturing for many years and later at Bond Tool in Waterbury until she retired.
She is survived by her sons, Martin of Milford, CT. and Kenneth and his wife Kathy of Cromwell, CT. She had two grandchildren whom she adored, Carly of Cromwell, CT. and Andrew and his wife Priyanka of Boston, Ma. whom she was thrilled to welcome into the family.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Pilgrim Manor for the care and compassion shown to her during the time she spent with them. They would also like to thank The Franciscan Hospice Care of Meriden for the care in her final days. The Bobenski’s extend special gratitude to Patti Hayes who brightened Evelyn’s days with her caring visits and who could be thought of as a family member.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00, Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at St. Maria Goretti Church 1300 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Navigators (A non-profit organization that strives to integrate people with disabilities into the community for both employment and recreation) 462 Farmington Ave. Kensington, CT. 06037
