Wolcott – Mr. Raymond C. Mantiglia, 60, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 23, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Raymond was born July 27, 1961 in Waterbury, son of Lavina (Cocchiola) Mantiglia of Prospect and the late Richard Carl Mantiglia. Raised in Prospect he attended local schools and was a graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1979. He was a former city standout in football and track and field. Ray was honored with the Nick Mambruno Football Award for Outstanding Senior in the City of Waterbury and MVP of the 1978 Wilby football team. As a senior, he also made both the 1978-79 All City and All NVL teams for track and field. Upon graduation he attended the University of New Haven where he continued his love for football. For 37 years he had been employed by the United States Post Office, and had retired in June of this year.

Ray was a dedicated father to his three children, Kristen-Leigh, Richard, and Suzy. He never missed any of the many sporting events or academic milestones achieved by his kids. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. Rays ultimate enjoyment was spending as much time as possible with his 3 month old granddaughter who was his absolute pride and joy. He also took pride in being a regular at the gym and was an avid runner for many years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Richard C. Mantiglia and his wife Samantha of Southington; his daughter, Suzy Mantiglia of Wolcott; his granddaughter, Mia Leigh Mantiglia; three sisters, Cynthia Hart of Harrisburg, NC, Elizabeth Bartolucci of Prospect and Allison Ciucci of Jacksonville, FL; his former wife and close friend, Susan Marcella, of Wolcott; his cousin and best friend Tim Rogers of Cheshire, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father he was predeceased by two daughters, Kristen-Leigh Mantiglia and Lauren Mantiglia and his sister, Pamela Mantiglia.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 29, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Woodtick Memorial Funeral Home 420 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 P.M. Burial in Calvary Cemetery will be private.
