Wolcott – Merle D. Hardenburg, 73, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017. He was the loving husband of Jeanette M. (Glogowski) Hardenburg for 47 years.

Merle was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania on August 1, 1944 to the late Maurice and Muza (Jones) Hardenburg. Raised in Pennsylvania, he attended local schools before joining the U. S. Navy at age 18. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force for 9 years. He worked for various HVAC companies in CT, retiring in 2011. Merle enjoyed fishing, drawing, reading Louis L’Amour books, and writing poetry. He also loved animals, especially his dog, Brody. Merle will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Including his wife, Jeanette, Merle is survived by his son, Eric P. Hardenburg and his wife Paula of Southington; his daughters, Wendy Shaffer; Laura Kiser; and Kellie Knickerbocker; several grandchildren, including Emily Brown; Jenna Brown; and Haley Hardenburg; several great-grandchildren and extended family.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Denise B. Hardenburg; his brother, Maurice Hardenburg; and his sisters, Clara Morrison, and Gene Morrison.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. A funeral home service will be held at 11:30 a.m. followed by full Military honors. Burial will be held privately.
