Wolcott – This week, two large rainbows appeared over Hartford Hospital, and on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, Marga D. Phelan decided to take the second one and stroll over the “Rainbow Bridge” where she was sure that her husband, William J. Phelan, Jr., was waiting, holding an opening for her in his Heavenly golf foursome.
Marga was born in Zempin, Germany on July 5, 1923, daughter of William and Marta (Weinhold) Darm. Raised in Waterbury, Connecticut, Marga was an active member of the First Lutheran Church where she spent eight decades in the church choir, lauded as one of their finest soloist. Marga was a longstanding member of the Waterbury Country Club, sang with the Waterbury Chorale, performed in local musical theatre productions, and was a founding member of a Women’s Barbershop Chorus in the 1970s.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Dr. William J. Phelan III and his wife, Ginny, of Mebane, NC; Ronald T. Phelan and his wife, Charlotte, of Watertown; Dennis B. Phelan and his wife, Donna, of Bristol; and Joy Phelan-Pinto and her husband, Dennis Pinto, of New York City; along with seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and myriad nieces and nephews.
Marga was also predeceased by her sister, Gerda Schissler, in addition to her husband William.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 1555 Hamilton Ave, Waterbury. Please meet directly at church; a burial will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marga’s name to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
