Tribute

Wolcott - Joseph R. Ciarlo got his angel wings on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 2:30 AM. He was surrounded by his family over the weekend and his hand was held knowing that he was well loved.

Joseph was born on August 8, 1927 in Waterbury, Connecticut. He was the youngest child of Angelo (Pontelandolfo, Italy) and Gironda Ciarlo, née Giamei (Genoa, Italy.) The child of Italian immigrants, Joe spent most of his younger years in Waterbury where he met his wife Marion Payton.  Joe and Marion then moved to Wolcott where they raised their family.

Joe enjoyed the outdoors and spent many days playing golf, fishing, hunting in Maine or traveling.  He spent many summers in Miami Shores visiting his in-laws with Marion and his children.  His love for animals and the outdoors were his passion.  He was quite the handyman forever fixing and repairing many things for family and friends.  He was Mr. Fixer.
 
Joe had a distinguished career at Scovil’s Manufacturing, Century Brass and Rofstra Engineering. He was a machinist/toolmaker for 44 years.  Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus - 4th Degree Knight since 1967.  He loved to tell stories, many from the plethora of books and news articles he read daily along with a glass of wine and a good meal with friends and family. He enjoyed visiting Natick, MA where he would spend countless weekends playing his favorite card game “Pay me” or Mexican Train Dominoes with his family. He spent many days at the VFW, Bristol Fish & Game and the Wolcott Senior Center where he ran the weekly bingo games.

Joe leaves behind a loving family that filled his heart with joy and pride.  He leaves behind his loving wife, Marion Payton Ciarlo of 71 years; son Richard Ciarlo and his wife Sylvia Ciarlo of Northport, Florida , son Roy Ciarlo of Wolcott, CT  and daughter, Marianne Ciarlo Wisheart and her husband Bill of Natick, MA ; Grandchildren Danielle, Bill and Ricky and Granddog Bloodhound Monte.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Assunta, and recently by brother Tom. 

Calling hours are Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10:00 to 12:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
