John Strachan
July 21, 1954 ~ June 24, 2021 (age 66) 66 Years Old
Terryville - John Briggs Strachan passed away on June 24, 2021. John was born on July 21, 1954 in Waterbury, son of the late Robert Strachan and Jane (Briggs) Strachan. John is survived by his sisters Jane Strachan of New York and Dana Strachan Gardner of Terryville and his brothers Robert of Waterbury and Thomas of Wolcott.
John attended schools in Wolcott, Crosby High School in Waterbury and Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
John and his brother Rob were part of the folk singers and songwriters scene in New York City during the 1980s, performing as The New England Express in places like Folk City and the Speak Easy. Their early original works can be heard on permanent exhibit at Smithsonian Folkways and other online venues, including liner notes in the Fast Folk Musical Magazine, also at Smithsonian. John's musical expertise was the acoustic guitar and vocals, as well as a song writer.
John was an avid reader and outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking and bird-watching. His special love was fly fishing.
John was proud of his Scots-Irish heritage and would don his handmade kilt, beret and a green shirt on festive occasions. He was also a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
John will be missed dearly by his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephew, friends and Linus, his devoted cat.
