Tribute

Wolcott - Our beloved John, 91, father, son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend died peacefully at his home on September 8, 2020 surrounded by family. He was born on May 2, 1929 to Milo and Katherine (Sharer) Obiden in Marenisco, Michigan. He was the eldest of 10 children.

John served on the USS Wasp CV-18 naval ship during the Korean War. He became a painter, sandblaster, and steeple jack by trade. John loved adventure. He parachuted in Florida and flew piper cub planes in Marenisco, Michigan. He taught self-defense at his studio that he owned in Hackensack, New Jersey.

John was known by many names, Dad, Grandpa John, and Uncle Chick. No matter what name you called him by, he was the person that everyone could count on. He had a kind heart and a gentle soul that drew us all to love him. His infectious smile and humor brought warmth into the hearts of those around him. John loved dogs and owned many chihuahuas throughout the years. Teensie and Bella will miss him dearly.

John is survived by his daughter Amy Grimaldi of Wolcott, step daughter Bonnie (Mike) Forcucci of Cheshire, his grandchildren Bethany (Jim) Haslam of Old Lyme and Michael Forcucci of Shelton, his great grandchildren Jonathan Grimaldi, Cole and Julia Haslam, and Lucas and Chase Forcucci. He is also survived by his brothers Milo and Matthew, his sisters Betty, Katherine, Antonia, and Rose, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

John is preceded in death by his wife Vivian, granddaughter Amber Lee Grimaldi, sisters Mary and Frances, and brother Carl.
