Wolcott – Harold W. Lofgren, 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Bristol Hospital. He was the husband of the late Sandra (Stevenson) Lofgren.
Harold was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 10, 1933, son of Ivar and Ida (Lavin) Lofgren.
Harold’s career was as a CT State Trooper, but he always had an entrepreneurial spirit. He began with a large paper route as a young boy, had a woodworking side business during his career, purchased Northend Package Store in the 70’s and started various other businesses during his lifetime. During his time in the U.S. Navy, he served aboard the USS Lake Champlain. In 1961, he participated in the recovery of Project Mercury/ Freedom 7 capsule after astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. completed the first U.S. space flight.
In his fifties he learned to fly small planes and enjoyed flying to Hyannis for lunch with Sandra, Ty and Mary. Some of his activities were woodworking, scuba diving, beach vacations in Marco Island and travel. He was also proud of the houses he built for himself and his parents. He had a great sense of humor and entertained everyone with a good joke. He was a member of the Capt. Edmund P. Zbikowski Post #2 Polish Club, Bristol Polish Club, B.P.O. Elks, VFW and American Legion.
Harold leaves behind his children, Christine Traonetti, and her husband, Michael; Susan Lofgren, and her husband, James Levandowski; and James Lofgren, and his wife, Cindy; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn; David; Ryan; and Brianna; and his best friends, Ty and Mary Rimcoski.
Including his wife, Sandra, Harold was predeceased by his sister, Viola Knutsen, and her husband, Martin.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 12:00 p.m. at Edgewood Cemetery, Wolcott.
