Gary R. Maheu Sr.

December 15, 1942 ~ May 29, 2021 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

Waterbury – Gary Robert Maheu Sr., 78, of Waterbury, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully after an 11-year courageous battle with multiple myeloma on Saturday, May 29, 2021. He was the husband of 48 years to Rebecca Rose (Cassel) Maheu.

Gary was born on December 15, 1942 in Derby, son of the late Harold and Tea (Bolduc) Maheu. Gary was a dedicated advocate of the Boy Scouts (past commissioner for Long River Council) and remained active supporting Troop 3 in Waterbury throughout his life. In earlier years, Gary enjoyed competing as a professional water skier, was an avid bowler and loved an occasional round of golf with family and friends. Gary was a simple man with a kind heart, loved cars and the history channel and always found a way to share his witty humor. His greatest joys included spending time with his family and friends, meeting new people and enjoying a good conversation over a cup of coffee.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital and Harold Leever Center (Yale Smilow Cancer Center) for their genuine compassion and dedication to Gary’s care. Their support will never be forgotten.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Gary Maheu Jr. and his wife Kathy, Virginia Maheu-Burke, and Steven Maheu and his wife Jennifer; seven grandchildren, Justina Burke and her partner Kait Burrow, Angela Boutote, Matthew Burke, Bryan Burke, Zachary Maheu, Keri Maheu, and Alex Maheu; and two great-grandchildren, Ronnie Kezelevich and AJ Geraldi.

A graveside service will be held on June 4th, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Road., Waterbury. There are no calling hours.
