Cecile Tanguay

Waterbury – Cecile “Big Deal” Tanguay, 76, of Waterbury, passed away on May 21, 2023 at Litchfield Woods in Torrington with her daughter by her side.

Cecile was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1946 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Elzear Sr., and Alberta (Matteau) Gelinas. Cecile enjoyed playing cards and bingo, doing crafts, listening to music, and cherished the time she was able to spend with her loving family. She was extremely proud to be born on Flag Day and would often been seen wearing red, white, and blue. Cecile will be remembered for her quick wit and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor.

Cecile is survived by her children, Raymond Tanguay and his companion Jennifer Lent, Robert Tanguay and his wife Tina, and Rosemarie Hughes and her husband George; six grandchildren, Jonathan Tanguay, George Hughes IV, Amber Tanguay, Ryan Hughes, Caden Hughes, and Autum Tanguay; her brother Elzear Gelinas Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Louis G. Gelinas, and Jeanne Fortunati.

Calling hours are Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Burial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Litchfield Woods for the love and care shown to Cecile during her time there.
