Waterbury - Carolyn “Dawn” Selens Grady, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born January 19, 1945 in Waterbury CT, daughter to Marion Louise (Harrison) Selens and Walter Ladislas Selens.

Dawn attended Mill Plain Union Church in Waterbury, and Wolcott Congregational Church. She attended Wolcott schools and graduated high school in 1963. She went on to study nursing and attended Post Jr College where she studied banking technology.  She started as a bank teller at Colonial Bank, in Wolcott, then onto Waterbury where she met her husband James Franklin Grady. They married in 1973.

Dawn was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time with her cats and feeding the backyard birds. She rescued many animals throughout the years and supported many animal rescues.
She loved the beach and it wasn't unusual for her to get in the car on a whim and drive up to the Cape just to have a bowl of fresh clam chowder and visit brother Walter, his family and Aunt Ginny.

Dawn was easy soft woman that was sensitive to other’s needs and never forgot to acknowledge life's special moments by sending a card or a gift. She always made herself available to nieces, nephews, and cousins to venture out for burgers, shopping or a movie. Dawn loved to visit family but always with a bag of sweets and pet treats.  She was loved and appreciated by family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband, James Grady; brother, Walter Selens; and aunt, "Ginny" (Harrison) Hellmann. She leaves her kitty, Ava; Walter’s wife Janet Selens; niece and husband Debra Selens Hirbour and Scot Hirbour, nephews Walter Selens, wife Bonnie; Keith Selens; David Selens; Jeff Selens, wife Michelle. Cousins Robert Hellmann, wife Lynn, their children Gretchen Flaherty, Erica Hellman, Krissy Robles; Thomas Hellmann, wife Klaudia, children Jason Hellmann, Daina Waugh; Susan Hellmann, children, Vin Raimo, John Raimo, Amy McNamara; and Lynn Harrison, daughter Becky. And many nieces and nephews; and cousins in Cornwall CT.
