Fort Mill, SC. - Bennett E. Bickford, 77, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. Ben was born on July 14, 1942 in Detroit, Maine to Wendell and Eva (Grant) Bickford and was one of seven children. Ben graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, ME and moved to Connecticut where he completed his training as a tool and die maker.
Ben and his wife of 54 years, Sheila Bickford, raised their family in Wolcott, CT. Ben worked for Duracell and he was transferred to Lancaster, SC in 1996. He retired in 2007 after 28 years with the company. Ben was no stranger to hard work and contributed greatly to all of the communities in which he lived. In Wolcott, he was a Senior Patrol Leader with Boy Scout Long River Council, a member of the Wolcott Grange and was a member of Mill Plain Union Church in Waterbury, CT. Ben was a lifetime member of Loyal Order of Moose Lancaster Lodge 1646, Palmetto Moose Legion 86 and held several positions in South Carolina Moose Association, District 2. He had been an active member of Loyal Order of Moose for 31 years.
Ben loved to be around his family, enjoyed playing cards and listening to blue grass music. Ben also loved to travel with his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we know that we are better for having him in our life.
In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves behind two sons, James Bickford of Waterbury, CT and Dwayne Bickford and wife Sandra Bickford of Wolcott, CT; two daughters, Sheri Tittle and her husband Dewayne Tittle of Clarksville, TN and Holly Johnson and Charlie Johnson of Wolcott, CT. He leaves behind eight grandchildren; his two sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Rogers and husband David Rogers of Naugatuck, CT and Reta Burton and her husband David Burton of Atlanta Georgia; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
