WOLCOTT ~ William E. Fogarty, 78, of Wolcott, passed away on October 10th at Bristol Hospital.
Mr. Fogarty was born July 4, 1931 in Bronx, NY, son of the late William L. and Gertrude C. (Costello) Fogarty. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and received a B.S. in Physics from Fairfield University and an MBA from UConn. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the First Marine Division Association. He started his employment career at Haydon Switch and also worked for the State of Connecticut in Children and Youth Services and ended his career at Veeder-Root as International Sales Manager. He was the chairman of the Wolcott Charter Revision Committee from 1964 to 1965. Bill was active in politics and was a former chairman of the Wolcott Town Council and the Republican Town Committee. He served as a director for the Republican State Central Committee and was a past treasurer of the Republican Town Committee. He also served on the Wolcott Town Hall Building Committee and was a past president of the Wolcott Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Wolcott Jaycees. He served on the St. Pius X Church parish council and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the V.F.W., Wolcott Post 1979 and was a past commander. William enjoyed skiing and golfing but his passion was being a fan of the N.Y. Yankees, UConn basketball, and Notre Dame football. He was a devout friend of the Wolcott High School football games.
He leaves his sons, William J. Fogarty and his wife Maria E. of Pasadena, MD, and Terence M. Fogarty of Wolcott, his daughters, Nancy E. Scully and her husband, James of Wolcott, and Kathleen M. Fogarty of Waterbury, his grandsons, William J., Ryan T., Patrick L., Brendan J., and Christian M., his former wife, Nancy Fogarty of Wolcott and his companion, Ann B. Gagnon of Glastonbury.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 8:30 am from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church for a funeral mass at 10 am. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Wolcott. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm.
