WILLIAM "BILLY D" DELANEY Retired ~ Northeast Utilities WOLCOTT ~ William "Billy D" T. Delaney, 64 of Wolcott passed away on October 25, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Brenda (Byrnes) Delaney. Bill was born January 10, 1946 in Waterbury, son of Irene (Buckley) Delaney and the late William Delaney. He was a US Navy veteran and participated in the recovery of the Gemini II astronauts while embarked on the U.S.S. Guam LPH9 Astronaut Recovery. He attended St. Francis Xavier Church and was a member of the Washington Hill Athletic Club. For many years, he coached for the Special Olympics and the Waterbury Knights of the Pop-Warner Football League. He retired in 2003 after 34 years of service from Northeast Utilities. Besides his wife, Brenda and his mother, he leaves his brother, Edward Delaney of Waterbury, his step-son, Mark Bernaitis of Meriden, his step-daughter, Ammie Bernaitis of Wolcott, and his grandchildren, Emily Prevost and Aaron Bernaitis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to St. Francis Xavier Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Wolcott. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm.
