Obituary

WATERBURYWalter J. Belsito Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lois (Goulet) Belsito. Walter was born on July 1, 1937, in Newburgh, N.Y., the son of the late Paul J. Belsito and Helen (Gardner) Belsito. He graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy in 1955 and moved to Waterbury. Walter worked as an electronic technician and TV repairman for many years before teaching at several high schools, including Kaynor Technical School and Adult Education in Waterbury. "Brother Walt" had a Christian talk Show, "God, the Bible, and You," on Skye Cable channel 13 for almost 20 years. He began his journey into the martial arts in 1969. In the 1970s he began teaching Tang Soo Do for the Police Athletic League in Waterbury and in 1972 he opened the first full time School in Waterbury and taught karate for over 45 years. Grandmaster Walter was the founder of Belsito Tang Soo Do Karate Association and the Belsito Martial Arts Association. Being a student of the oriental culture he had a working knowledge of Chinese, Korean and Japanese languages. He was a man of many talents, including being a HAM radio operator, playing pool and enjoying a game of pinochle. He was an avid Yankee Fan, loved music, the computer, and outdoor summer concerts. Walter was a member of the Charles Rietdyke Senior Center, the Prospect Senior Center, the Naugatuck Senior Center and the Falls Ave. Senior Center. Besides his wife Lois of 54 years, he leaves his children, Angela Belsito LeRoy and her husband, Michael of Waterbury, Walter J. Belsito Jr. and his wife Eunice, of Waterbury, Donald Belsito and his wife Shirley of Woodbourne, NY; Pamela Gerhard and her husband Thomas of Wolcott, and Maria Wargo of Naugatuck, his sister, Faye Denike of New Windsor, NY, fourteen grandchildren, Mike, Daniel, and Amanda LeRoy, Amber , Brittany, and David Robertson, Richard, Jason, and Sabrina Wargo, Donald, Jeremy, Gabriel, Vanessa, and Antonio Belsito; one great-grandchild, Cameron LeRoy, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday at 11 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm and on Thursday from 10 am until the time of the service.
