Stuart, FL - Thomas Phelan, age 87, died peacefully on April 2nd at Salerno Bay Health and Rehabilitation Center in Florida after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Georgianna Bryan Phelan of Wolcott, CT, where they raised their family and actively contributed to the community throughout their lives. Mr. Phelan was born July 11, 1927, in Waterbury, son of the late Thomas and Anna Carrington Phelan. He attended Crosby High School in Waterbury where he excelled in academics, track and basketball. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946 and is a Plank Holder for the USS Huntington. He began his career as a lineman with Connecticut Light & Power, and retired as the Regional Line Clearance Supervisor from Northeast Utilities in 1989. Mr. Phelan was an active member of St. Pius X Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also on the founding committee for the building of St. Pius X Church. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed golfing, swimming, bowling, dancing and playing bridge. He was a quiet, unassuming man who loved his family unconditionally and always put them first. He leaves a son, Dennis Phelan and his wife Donna of Jensen Beach, Florida; a daughter, Cathyann Kirschbaum and her husband Jack of Jensen Beach, Florida; a granddaughter, Kellie Phelan and her husband Matt Bentley of Seattle, Washington, and a grandson, Bryan Phelan of Denver, Colorado. Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 17, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church in Wolcott. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida 34997.
