WOLCOTT - Stephen W. Sturges Sr., 84, formerly of Oroville California, lost his short battle with cancer on January 6, 2014 at Wolcott View Manor. He was predeceased by his wife Patsie (Veazey) Sturges and his daughter Gail (Sturges LaCouisier) Capozzi. Stephen was born on March 17, 1929, in Keene Valley, NY, son of the late William Sturges and Irene (Proctor) Cahill. He attended schools in Keen and Troy NY then enlisted in the Marine Corp. He had a love to be outdoors feeding many species of birds, wild animals and even skunks. He worked most of his life in retail and spent 25 years in Oakville California, before returning to Wolcott last year. He was previously married to Virginia (Eaton) (Sturges) Ferranti. Stephen is survived by three children, Beverly (Sturges) Becker and her husband Rick of Canaan, Stephen W. Sturges II and his wife Lisa of Wolcott, Cherie Sturges of Thomaston, seven grandchildren, Paul and Kyle LaCouisiere, Erica Sturges, Aryn Maldonado, Trisha Shank, Kenneth Weaver and Stephen W. Sturges III, four great grandchildren, Julian, Zoey, Aubree and Logan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12:00pm at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 252 Boundline Rd. Wolcott.
