Obituary

OBITUARY WOLCOTT ~ Stephen E. Harbanuk, Sr., 88, of Wolcott passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and family on Sunday, November 9 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Charbonneau) Harbanuk. Mr. Harbanuk was born December 26, 1919 in Waterbury, son of the late Audry and Mary (Lipa) Harbanuk. "Steve", as he was known to everyone, was a 1940 graduate of Leavenworth High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in the Rhineland and Central Europe receiving the European African Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. Steve worked as an electrician all his life and retired from the Local IBEW 488 of Bridgeport after 30 years of service. He and his wife were one of the founding families at St. Pius X Church. He was a 3rd degree knight of the Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the V.F.W., Post 1979 and the American Legion Post 165. He was a former member of the Wolcott Democratic Town Committee and the Wakelee School Building Committee and was also a member of the Wolcott Senior Association. He enjoyed fishing with his sons and grandsons and enjoyed traveling. Steve was a kind and gentle, yet strong man who was a source of inspiration to his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched. Besides his wife of 67 years, he leaves his sons, Stephen Harbanuk, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Wolcott, Roger Harbanuk, Esquire and his wife Denise of Wolcott, his daughters, Donna Miller and her husband, David of Waterbury, Deborah Cooney and her husband, Eugene of Southington, and Sandra Harbanuk and her husband, David Tobias of Juneau, AK, his sisters, Anna Urban and Mary Farr, both of Wolcott, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 8:45 am from the Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to St. Pius X Church for a funeral mass at 10 am. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm. Special thanks is extended to the Waterbury VNA Hospice staff for the care that was given to Steve during his final illness.
