Wolcott - Sophie Angeline (Anderson) Cantamessa, born in Waterbury on March 6, 1935, died August 17, 2016. Sophie was the daughter of the late Rosemary (Marticello) (Anderson) Deegan and Reider Stanley Anderson. She attended local schools, Merriman Grammar School and Wilby High School, class of 1953. Sophie graduated from Teachers College of CT at New Britain (now Central CT State University) with a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.S. in Reading, the equivalent of a 6th year from St. Josephs College. After receiving her degrees in education, Sophie taught at Bucks Hill and Regan Schools for 35 years. She was later a secretary at St. Pius X in Wolcott for over 30 years. She was a volunteer of the Red Cross Nurses Aide at Waterbury Hospital for five years, a member of the W.R.T.A and the C.E.A, and was the publicity chairman of the old Italy Heritage Inc. Sophie enjoyed being with family, especially at her twice a year fried dough parties. She loved reading and watching the New York Yankees. Sophie is survived by her children, Rosemary Williams, Carlo Vincent Cantamessa and his wife Luann (Musano), and Carol Ann Olsen and her husband David, with whom she lived, all of Wolcott, 9 grandchildren, Christopher Williams and his wife Jaime, Jonathan Williams, Jennifer Tiso and her husband Richard III, Michael Cantamessa, Nicholas Cantamessa, Steven Cantamessa, Joseph Cantamessa, and Brandon Olsen, all of Wolcott, and Stephanie Olsen of Waterbury; two great grandchildren, Richard Tiso IV and Amelia Rose Williams of Wolcott. She was predeceased by her parents; step-father, Harold Deegan; brother Augustine (Augie) Anderson; and son-in-law, Walter Williams Jr. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 22 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Rd. Burial will follow mass in Edgewood Cemetery in Wolcott. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Sophies name to VITAS Hospice, 199 Park Rd Extension, Ste. 102, Middlebury, CT 06762 or the American Cancer Association at www.cancer.org
