Waterbury - Mrs. Ruby L. Mitchell, 96, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, Monday evening, April 7, 2014 at her home with her extended family by her side. She was the widow of Mr. Rufus C. Mitchell and was predeceased by her son, Rufus J. Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell was born on October 23, 1917 in Emanuel County, Georgia, daughter of the late George and Mellissa Durden. She was an employee of Uniroyal for 26 years until her retirement. Ruby loved sewing and cooking but her main focus was her family and she cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Waterbury. Ruby is survived by her five daughters, Vernita Monroe of Waterbury, Diane Mitchell and Jaki Mitchell Baily of California, Geralyn Bulls of Georgia, and Terry Smith of Wolcott; one sister, Murdis Williams of Georgia; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ruby and her family would like to give a special thanks to her extended family, Naomi and Philip Walsh; and her adopted grandchildren, Adrian and James Hobbs; her caregivers, Kathy Gaskin, Dorothy Petti, and Roslynn and Stefania, Dr. A. Cusano and his Staff, Seasons Hospice, VNA of Waterbury, Interim Healthcare, Quality Home Care, Keep Me Home, Angela, Rubys case worker, Pickett's Drug Store, and Woodtick Memorial for all the love and caring she received from them. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Baptist Church, 65 Kingsbury St, Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
