WOLCOTT ~Robert D. Saunders, 71, of Hillcrest Dr. passed away on March 1, 2012 after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Lombardo) Saunders. Robert was born June 23, 1940 in Waterbury, son of the late Leon and Grace (Greco) Saunders Sr. He was a veteran of Viet Nam era, serving with the U.S. Army. He worked for many years as a truck driver and retired from Waters Construction in Newtown. Robert was a NASCAR fan and was an avid golfer and member of the Farmingbury Hills Golf Corse. Besides his devoted wife, Linda, he leaves his loving children, Jason Saunders Sr. of Wolcott, Raymond Saunders of Waterbury, Amelia Saunders grandchildren, Jason Jr. Samantha, Dakota and Jessica Saunders, great grandchildren, Juliana Tomcheski and Jordyn Saunders. Also he is survived by his brother John Saunders Sr. He was predeceased by a brother Leon Saunders Jr. and Patricia Nonamaker. Family and friends are invited to gather Monday, March 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott. A celebration of life service will be held at 6 pm. Burial will be private. Memorial gifts may be made to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708.
