Cheshire - Rita R. Longo, widow of Richard P. Longo, of Elim Park in Cheshire and formerly of Wolcott, passed away on November 16, 2022.
Rita was born on February 9, 1933, the daughter of the late Rocco and Jennie (Luppachino) Rinaldi, formerly of East Hartford. Rita was a graduate of East Hartford High School, class of 1950. She was employed by Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company and Pratt & Whitney until leaving to raise her family. She attended classes at Naugatuck Community College and Post College of Waterbury.
A Communicate of St. Pius X Catholic Church as well as a member of St. Pius X Ladies Guild, The Holy Rosary Society, and the Parish Council. Rita was an avid bowler with the Wolcott Womens Bowling league for thirty years. She served as a Justice of the Peace for many years and was an assistant Registrar for the town voting districts. Rita was the First President of the Columbiettes Auxiliary of the local Knights of Columbus. Rita was an avid volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Waterbury Hospital as well as a member of the St. Marys Hospital Woman's Auxiliary, Farmingbury Womans Club, Wolcott Historical Society, and the Friends of the Wolcott Library. For the past several years, Rita enjoyed living at Elim Park Independent Living facility where she took part in many of the residents activities, volunteering, and spending time with her friends.
Rita is survived by three daughters, Lynn Baccaro and her husband William, of Berlin, CT., Sharon Barrett and her husband James, of Newton, MA., and Lisa Romano of Niantic, CT; two sons, Steven Longo and his wife Dawn, of Moon, PA., and David Longo and his wife Donna, of Wolcott; eleven grandchildren, Carolyn Baccaro and her husband, Mickey Dwyer of Beacon, NY; Daniel Baccaro of West Hartford, Michael Baccaro and his finance Heather Smith, of Portland, ME, Gregory Barrett of Atlanta, GA, Ellen Barrett of NY, NY, Stephanie Romano Shaw and her husband Chris Shaw, of Old Saybrook, Mikaela Longo of San Diego, CA, Brenna Longo of Parma Heights, PA, Alysa Longo and her fianc, Rich Long, of Quincy MA, Jenna Longo of Boston, MA, and Jared Longo of Somerville, MA; two great-grandchildren, Vita Baccaro Dwyer of Beacon, NY, and Jude Michael Shaw of Old Saybrook, CT; her siblings, Anne Fornabi and her late husband Anthony, of South Windsor, Dolfina Hathaway and her late husband Charles, South Windsor, and Nicola Rinaldi of Coronado, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, November 20, 2022 from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
