Richard Galipault
Richard Galipault, of Southington, formerly of Wolcott, husband and best friend of Lorraine (Nitowski) Galipault, entered into eternal rest on June 6th, 2024 in the comfort of his home after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Richard was born in Waterbury, CT on January 8th, 1954 to the late Bernard and Rosemary (Affe) Galipault. Richard spent his early years in Waterbury before moving to Wolcott where he resided until 2022. He attended Wolcott High School before enlisting in the Navy during the Vietnam War where he honorably served on the USS Little Rock. It was unfortunately on this ship where he was exposed to the asbestos that would ravage his lungs.
Richard was always there for anyone that might need a helping hand. He was a humble and generous man and would use his skills to help anyone that might be in need.
Richard was a plumber by trade and a member of Local 777 before co-founding a Mechanical Contracting business, Pipe & Power Mechanical Inc. from 1994 until 2004. He then went on to establish L & R Plumbing and Heating LLC where he worked until his retirement. His son, Steven and "adopted" son Derek Voghel took over the reins and renamed the business L & R Mechanical Services, LLC.
In addition to his loving wife Lorraine, whom he married on August 1st, 1985 and later remarried in the Catholic Church in 2001. Richard is survived by 4 sons, Robert (Jen) Galipault, Joseph Galipault, Steven (Kristen) Galipault, Christopher (Jessica) Galipault and daughter Nicole (Ryan) Dunn. His seven grandchildren, Faith Savino (Stephen) Rosko, Tristan and Gavin Galipault, Harleigh and Nova Dunn and Charlie and Eleanor Galipault. Richard was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Savino and Hudson Rosko.
Richard also leaves his brother, Bernard (Catherine) Galipault and sister- in-laws Rosemary McGovern and Theresa DAmbrosi. His niece, Lindsey Williams and nephews Jeffrey Galipault, Michael and Terry McGovern along with many cousins and three aunts. He was predeceased by his nephew Brian McGovern.
Richard remained a lifelong friend with his former wife, Catherine Moore.
Richard adored his mother-in-law; Stephanie Nitowski of Naugatuck and she adored him.
Richard loved the Catholic Faith and was a communicant of St. Basil the Great Parish until he could no longer attend Mass due to his illness. He didnt anticipate being drawn closer to Christ but stated that his illness did precisely that. His days were filled with watching Daily Mass on EWTN, reciting the Rosary and The Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. Richard was a recipient of the Saint Joseph Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation in 2007.
The family would like to thank the dedicated hospice nurses from Trinity Health, Marnee, Julie and Alicia along with Dr. Edmund Caporaso for their kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Tunnell to Towers Foundation or ST Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
