Obituary

Rev. Robert E. Rhodes Jr. Retired United Methodist Church Minister WOLCOTT- The Rev. Robert E. Rhodes Jr., 91, husband of Nancy (Warner) Rhodes of Wolcott passed peacefully on Sunday December 22, 2024, at his home in Wolcott. Rev. Rhodes was born on August 30, 1933, in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Robert Sr. and Georgia (Heath) Rhodes. Robert graduated from University of North Carolina, Union Theological School in New York City, and The Theological School at Drew University. In 1956 Robert was ordained Deacon of The United Methodist Church, an Elder in 1958 Troy Conference and a Minister in 1962 New York Annual Conference. Rev. Rhodes served at Broadway UMC in Rensselaer, NY, Trinity UMC in Albany, NY, Five Points Mission in New York, NY, West hills UMC in Huntington Station, NY, Sea Cliff UMC New York in Amityville, NY, Westbury UMC in New York and retired in 2000. After retiring he relocated to Wolcott, CT, served on the Laurel Ridge and Chestnut Hill Senior Citizen Board, mentored at Childrens Community School, served on the Board of Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries and was a Volunteer Chaplain at Waterbury Hospital for 12 years. He also served as interim pastor at Kensington UMC and UMC of Waterbury during his retirement. Rev. Rhodes had a love of books, UNC basketball, The NY Yankees, NY Giants, and enjoyed the Palace Theater and Waterbury Symphony Orchestra. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren in all of their various sports that they excelled in. Special to his heart was being "Mr. Clause" at various events especially DCF parties. In addition to his wife Nancy of 41 years, he leaves his children, Ann Rhodes of FL, Carol (Eric) Haslun of West Hartford, David (Christiana) Rhodes of Fairfax, VA, Tina (Dean) Mennillo of Wolcott, Kelly (Eduardo) Domondon of Waterbury, his grandchildren Christian (Sabrina) Petzold, Michael Petzold, Cameron (Angel) Rhodes, John Haslun, Kate Haslun, Dean Jr. (Kayla) Mennillo, Anthony (Ashley) Mennillo, Melissa Mennillo, Alexsandra (Princess) Domondon, his great grandchildren Ayden, Jinora, Penelope and another one on the way. He also leaves his brother David Rhodes of Kitty Hawk, NC. Rev. Rhodes was predeceased by his grandsons R-Jay Domondon and MacClaren Rhodes. Funeral Services will be on Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Asbury United Methodist Church 90 Church St. in Bristol's Forestville section beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Woodtick Cemetery in Wolcott. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott.
