Obituary

WOLCOTT- Phyllis (Mills) Bruce, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Born in Waterbury on December 11, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Laura (Whitehouse) Mills. She graduated from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse at Waterbury Hospital for 28 years. She lived in Wolcott for most of her adult life. She was a member of the Farmingbury Womans Club, organized a Lunch Bunch group with colleagues from Waterbury Hospital for over 20 years, and enjoyed her swims at the Southington YMCA. Phylliss family was her world, and her family members could not doubt how much she cherished each of them. She delighted in being "GG" to her great grandson and was often surrounded by family and friends. Aside from her family, there was nothing she loved as much as an adventure. She was an avid traveler and visited dozens of countries and much of the United States. Her travels inspired an interest in Chinese culture and history, which she explored through her studies at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Left to carry on her legacy of love are her children Deane (Allyson) Bruce, Cathe (Robert) Sherman; her grandchildren Allyssa Bruce, Aaron Bruce, Keith (Samantha) Sherman, and Kyle (Captain Samantha Power) Sherman; her great grandson Julian Sherman; and her lifelong friend and the father of her children Michael Bruce. She was predeceased by her brother Harold Mills and her sister Ruth (Mills) Hamilton. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Phyllis Bruce at 11 AM on Friday February 2nd at the Wolcott Congregational Church 185 Center Street. Followed by a reception in the churchs Covenant Hall. Burial will be in the spring at Edgewood Cemetery. Woodtick Memorial is honored to serve the Bruce Family at this time.
