Obituary

CHAPUT, Reverend Leo Joseph (Pastor Leo), 88, was surrounded by love and gratitude as he began his eternal road-trip home with his friend Jesus on September 20, 2015. He was born on August 26, 1927 in Moosup, Connecticut. Reverend Leo J. Chaput was predeceased by his beloved wife, Reverend Fumihi Chaput; his parents, Marie and Joseph Chaput; and his five siblings: Bertha, Reta, Francis, Lucille and Connie. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Terry Nichols; daughter and son-in-law, Reta Nichols and David Holt; son and girlfriend, Samuel Chaput and Andrea Davis; daughter, Elizabeth Chaput; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Ray Malo; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Andre Pounds; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a large spiritual family. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and a hard-worker for his family and employers, including the Mayflower Moving Company, Connecticut Transit Bus Company and Purolator Armored. Pastor Leo, as he became known, loved his computer, road-trips and ocean-fishing; and was a fisher of men as an ordained minister since 1961. He served as a pastor for 50 years with the help of his wife, founded a Southbridge, MA church in the early 60s which still exists in its own form today and was a longtime member of the Full Gospel Businessmens Association. Pastor Leo was an author, teacher, mentor and missionary who so enjoyed local and global community outreach. He founded the Personal Growth Home-Study/Bible Correspondence Course which he shared freely with gratitude for the God he loved so much; simply offering genuine encouragement to all in their personal relationship with God. Over 1,000 students worldwide completed the course which continues on. Pastor Leo also shared often on various television and radio broadcasts, and for over 25 years also facilitated weekly Christian-based/12-Step meetings (supporting all recoveries) including at a local state prison. As an avid senior-user of email and web, Pastor Leo also planted and grew a global Prayer Partners email group over the years, through which further hope and faith were extended in even greater multitudes of prayers for countless others needs. After his retirement from pastoring, he cherished his fellowship and activity with his Christ Church family. In recent years as President then Treasurer of the Robin Ridge Tenants Association where he resided, he appreciated working with residents and was grateful for many friendships. In all, Pastor Leo was a dedicated servant of God and became so much to so many. He was authentically blessed by everyone he shared with, especially on his favorite topics: Gods love, forgiveness, gratitude and recently on Gods sovereignty. His signature of appreciation for sharing was concluding with a fitting old hymn that just happened to cross his mind. Thrilledhed sing a snippet, just for you. He and his wife are deeply missed and cherished. A celebration of Reverend Leo Joseph Chaputs life will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Christ Church, 16 Town Line Road - Bldg.
