Wolcott - Mrs. Nellie Joseph, 99 formally of Wolcott, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Walnut Hill in New Britain. She was the widow of Mr. Edward Joseph Sr. Nellie was born on April 6, 1916 in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late Shaheen and Elizabeth (Sarkis) Assif. Nellie was an avid gardener and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. She was a food service supervisor in Park Manor and Whitewood Manor convalescent homes for many years. Her artistic talents lead her into cake decorating and teaching ceramics to many students. Nellie is survived by her two sons, Howard Joseph and his wife Sandy, and Richard Joseph Sr. and his wife Lorraine; two sisters, Betty Topazio and Evelyn Korolatny; eight grandchildren, Deborah Vanasse and her husband Raymond, Mark Edward Norton, Kamala Dion and her husband Raymond, Dawn Spina, Monica Santovasi and her husband Raymond, Richard Joseph Jr., Jillian Bosco; and Lauren Joseph; 10 great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by hertwo children Edward Joseph Jr., and Judy Spina;also five sisters and one brother; Julia Whibey, Jennie Shahen, Mary Haddad, Josephine Raad, Anna Shashaty, and Joseph Assif. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff, and administrator, Janet Shahen, at Walnut Hill Care Centerfor the exceptional love and caregiven to Nellie during her stay with them. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
