Wolcott - Karen R. Surprenant, 71, of Wolcott, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at St. Marys Hopsital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Mr. Raymond J. Surprenant, Jr.
Karen was born on June 24, 1942 in Waterbury to George C. Ranslow and the late Louise A. Ranslow. Karen enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, and out dancing. She was passionate about spending time with her family and friends. She loved to help others, often volunteering at the Salvation Army Shelter in Waterbury, helping in organizing their Christmas party every year. Karen was a part-time employee at P-A-R Precision in Wolcott for a number of years.
Besides her father, Karen is survived by her fiance, Francis Branco, of Waterbury, her son, Ronald Surprenant and his wife Patricia, of Waterbury; her daughter, Nancy DiChiara and her husband Paul, of Wolcott; a sister, Diane Hull of Williston, FL; three grandchildren, Christopher Michael Surprenant, Natasha E. DiChiara; and Paul Lafontaine, Jr.; her step-mother Ruth Ranslow of Archer, FL; three nephews, Paul Berube, Chris Berube, and Ollie Hull, III; and a niece, Dawn Hull.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, May 24 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will follow in Woodtick Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Ii lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made in Karens name to the Salvation Army Shelter, 74 Central Ave., Waterbury, CT 06702 or the American Cancer Society.
