Terryville ~ Mrs. Jane (Briggs) Strachan, 79, of North Lakeside Dr., passed away on June 15, 2012, while surrounded by her family. Jane was born on September 16, 1932 in Norwalk, daughter of the late John Elliot and Ann (Monahan) Briggs. Mrs. Strachan lived in Wolcott for more than 50 years. She was a cum laude graduate of the University of Connecticut, Waterbury branch, where she received her bachelors degree in human services. She was very active with her 5 children and was a former president of the PTA at Alcott School in Wolcott. She was a member of St. Pius X Church since 1957 and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Jane loved to read and was an avid sports fan of the Yankees, the Knicks and the Patriots. She also watched cooking shows and home and garden episodes. For 20 years, she worked at several convalescent centers as a recreational therapist, including the former Cheshire Convalescent Center from where she retired. She showered her patients and their families with comfort and warmth. Her love and concern for her family was always foremost in her life. She leaves her children, Jane A. Strachan of New York, Robert Strachan of Waterbury, John Strachan of Terryville, Dana Strachan-Gardner of Terryville, Thomas Strachan of Wolcott, six grandchildren, Melanie, Dustin, Allie, Leah, Erika, Brooke, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family are asked to meet at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott, CT on Wednesday at 8:30 am to arrive at St. Pius X church for a Mass at 10am. Burial will be at 1pm at St. Johns Cemetery in Norwalk. Calling Hours are on Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association P.O.
