Wolcott - Mrs. Elinor K. (Knutson) Hoffman, 84, resident of Wolcott since 1954, passed away surrounded by her loving family at The Alzheimer's Resource Center on Thursday February 26, 2015 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimers disease. She was the widow of Retired Wolcott Police Chief, Roy D. Hoffman.
Elinor was born on July 9, 1930 in New Haven, daughter of the late E. Herbert and Esther (Lincoln) Knutson. She attended Bunker Hill Elementary School and was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1948. Elinor was a long time member of the Wolcott Congregational Church and the Wolcott Historical Society. She was an avid walker and loved being outdoors. Elinor enjoyed her many walks around Hitchcock Lake in Wolcott. Elinor enjoyed her years at Colonial Bank as a bookkeeper. She was a bus driver for Wolcott schools, retiring in 1990. After her retirement, Roy and Elinor took off for warm winters in Ajo, Arizona. Elinor was a diehard Boston Red Sox and UConn Huskies Women's Basketball fan.
Elinor is survived by her son, Gary Hoffman, his wife Norma, and her son Douglas Sweatt; two daughters, Shelley Magel and her husband Gerry of Oakville, and Tracy Sirois and her husband Rich of Wolcott; four grandchildren, Nikole Hoffman, Matthew Magel, Justin Magel, and Madison Sirois; a great-granddaughter, Lizabeth Muniz; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Roy K. Hoffman; her brother, Herbert L. Knutson; and her sister, Dorothy Wright.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Village at East Farms and the Alzheimers Resource Center of CT for the exceptional care that was given to our mom.
