STORRS ~ Mrs. Arlene Lorna (Evers) Bergen, 85, formerly of County Rd. Wolcott died Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Brittany Farms Health Center in New Britain, CT. She was the widow of Richard H. Bergen. Mrs. Bergen lived the last two years of her life with her son and his wife in Storrs, CT after leaving New Hampshire where she lived for eight years. Mrs. Bergen was born in Naugatuck, CT on July 19, 1926, daughter of the late William J. and Mabel (Noble) Evers. She moved to Wolcott in 1946 where she got married and raised three children. Arlene enjoyed her many years as a kindergarten teacher in Wolcott and worked at Montgomery Ward and Caldor. She loved to sew, golf and square dance. She also had a ceramic studio in her home for many years. Arlene was a long time member of the Wolcott Congregational Church and belonged to the Ladies Aid. Mrs. Bergen is survived by her children, Bruce R. Bergen and his wife Brenda of Storrs, Barry R. Bergen and his wife Georgette of New Britain, Cheryl Varrone and her husband Angelo of Ossipee, NH, five grandchildren, Jennifer (Bergen) Teuber of Holliston, MA, Allison Bergen of Wauregan, CT, Zachary Bergen of Portland, OR, Geoffrey Bergen of Bristol, Garrick Bergen of New Britain, two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Joshua Teuber of Holliston, MA and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers, William and Bud Evers and a sister Della Voegli. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 27 at 10:00 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd. of Wolcott. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5:00 -7:00 pm at the funeral home.
