Ronald Winters Sr., 74, of Wolcott, better known as "Ron", passed away at Waterbury Hospital on Wednesday November 30th after a long battle with illness.
Ron loved spending time at home, tinkering with numerous projects, as well as driving around town visiting his many friends. He enjoyed having his friends over for his annual Summer Horseshoe Tournament in his backyard. He loved hunting, fishing and Nascar. He had also spent many seasons in Vermont teaching his two sons to snowmobile. Along with being a parent to his sons, he played a large role in the upbringing of his granddaughter Amber. Ron had just celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary to his devoted wife, Sylvia.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, as well as a volunteer at the Wolcott Fire Department, Company Three. He had a passion for cars and auto-body, and retired from Blasius Chevrolet in Waterbury.
He was the son of the late Howard and Josephine Winters. Ron is survived by Sylvia (Napolitano) Winters, his loving wife of 54 years. He is also survived by his brother Richard Winters; two sons, Ronald Winters Jr. and Michael Winters; granddaughter Amber (Winters) Thurston and her husband Sean Thurston; grandson Curtis Winters; as well as god-daughter Melissa (Hillman) Violette and her husband Brian Violette. In addition to Rons family, he had an abundance of close friends and acquaintances, all of whom he cared for deeply.
Calling hours for Ron will be at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott on Wednesday December 14th, between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following at 6pm. Condolences can be sent directly to the family.
