Obituary

Wolcott - Mr. Raymond F. ONeil of Wolcott, passed away on November 14, 2016. Born and raised in Waterbury he was the son of the late Molly and Augustine ONeil. Ray is survived by his wife, Ellen (Campbell), who was his high school sweetheart and the love of his life; his son Bruce ONeil and his girlfriend Jacqueline Recchia; daughter Mary Ellen Stamp and her husband Jeff Stamp; his cherished grandchildren Timothy and Ellen Stamp; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Gus and Donald ONeil. Ray served in the U.S. Navy on board the Battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin. He was the proud winner of the Navy Boxing Brigade Championship in Brainbridge, M.D. in 1953. He was a lifelong avid boxing and football fan. In his younger years, he boxed under the name of Bobby Lee. Residents in the Hitchcock Lake area knew the swimming season had started when they saw Ray swimming in the lake. He spent his working years at the Synthetic Division of Uniroyal in Naugatuck and Erickson Metals of Cheshire. Burial and funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
