Wolcott - Raymond J. McDonald, 81, passed away on Monday evening, December 19, at St. Marys Hospital with his children at his side. He was the husband of the late Ann E. (Coughlin) McDonald.
Mr. McDonald was born December 15, 1935 in Waterbury, son of the late George and Cecilia (Garneau) McDonald. Raised in Waterbury he was a graduate of St. Marys Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School. He was an all-state swimmer and camp counselor for the Waterbury YMCA. At the age of 17 he became employed at Phillips Automotive Electronics and remained there until his retirement in 1998.
He will be remembered as an avid reader who never saw a book he didnt like, and was always curious about what friends or strangers were reading and would happily make recommendations about books he thought they might enjoy. A longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 3961, he was a fourth degree knight and had served as grand knight. He was a faithful communicant of St. Pius X Church.
He is survived by one son, Mark E. McDonald and his wife Nadine of Wolcott; two daughters, Debbie A. McDonald of Naugatuck and Kathleen B. Roncarti and her husband Scott of Watertown; one brother, Francis McDonald and his wife Lucille of Waterbury; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann McDonald of Wolcott; his daughter-in-law, Robin (Muckle) McDonald of Wolcott; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, USMC Sgt. Kevin G. McDonald and his brother, George McDonald.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 28, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 29, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in Rays name to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society of Waterbury, Inc. 327 Baldwin St. Waterbury, CT 06705 to help fund the homeless shelter.
