"May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true, may you always do for others and let others do for you. May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung, may you stay forever young." - Bob Dylan
Waterbury - Peter Mitchell, age 68, passed away quietly, April 1, 2015, doing what he loved, taking care of the tenants in his building. Pete was the oldest of six children born to Francis and Mildred Mitchell of Wolcott. His lifes journey took him from a 60s bohemian existence in Greenwich Village to an acting career in Hollywood and eventually back to his roots in Connecticut to assist his parents in their later years. With their passing six years ago, he gladly assumed the role of patriarch for his large and loving family.
His passion for mentoring was characterized in everything he did from convincing his kid brother to join him in California, to bookstore trips with eager nieces, to impromptu woodworking classes in his basement shop. There was no activity by any one of his family members that escaped his interests and encouragement. There was never a dance recital, soccer game, band concert or graduation that he was too busy to attend.
He is survived by his brothers, Tom (Barbara), Steve (Maureen), Fred (Donna), and his sister Suzanne Pinard (Allan) of Thomaston, and his sister-in-law, Evinda Kasper of Middlebury. Peter was also preceded in death by his brother Bob. His nieces and nephews are Emily (Andy), Jessica, Sudha, Sujathi (Rob), Krishna (Katelynn), Alyson (Jamie), Kathryn, Ben, Anne, Kyra and Ellen. He also has great nieces Evelyn, Violet and the newest addition to our family, Indigo.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 25 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. A memorial service celebrating Petes life will follow at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mattatuck Museum, Waterbury, CT, via their website, www.mattatuckmuseum.org, or by calling 203-753-0381
