Watertown Marcel Veronneau, 85, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mariette (Fortier) Veronneau, for 60 years until her passing in 2015. Marcel was born in Waterbury on November 2, 1935, son of Charles and Marie (Lefevre) Veronneau. Upon completing his service with the U.S. Marine Corps as a Demolition Specialist, Mr. Veronneau returned to Waterbury and began work as an Electrical Apprentice for Scovill Inc. He became the youngest Master Electrician License holder in CT. Being an entrepreneur, Marcel owned and operated several innovative businesses in Waterbury since 1961. In 1969, he developed a commercial shopping plaza in Prospect and was the president of the anchor store, Veronneau Building and Electric. From 1973 1984, he was CEO and Co-Founder of Environmental Waste Resources in Waterbury. From 1973 until present, he was partner of MRT Realty, and renovated the previously unused Anaconda Brass facility located at 130 Freight St., in Waterbury. From 1984 until present, Marcel was Founder and CEO of Industrial Management and Training Institute in Waterbury. Mr. Vernonneaus lifelong commitment to individuals with disabilities began in the 1970s with his support of Milorias Childrens Hospital of Prospect. His efforts resulted in the complete renovation of the facility including innovative physical therapy for the children who resided at the hospital. For more than 20 years Marcel had been active in supporting the WARC Supported Employment Program that provides job training and work experience in a number of areas including custodial, grounds keeping and light industrial. The WARC honored Marcel for his commitment to their organization in 2003. Marcel supported the City of Waterbury initiative to reduce blight; he sponsored the renovation and beautification of South Main Street; and was instrumental in the renovation of the Holy Land Cross. Marcel was a member of the Lions Club of Waterbury and was a past president; a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 24 since 1963; and a member of the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce for over 40 years. Marcel leaves behind his daughters, Susan Palasciano, and her husband, Paul; and Janice Shannon, and her husband, John; his son in law, Daniel Gorman; his grandchildren, Kathryn Green, and her husband, Brandon; Daniel Gorman, and his wife, Mary; Nicole Olson, and her husband, Jake; John Shannon, and his wife, Dana; Rachel Menster, and her husband, Chris; Laura Shannon, and her wife, Summer; Christopher Dupont; Eric Dupont; Matthew Palasciano; and Paul Palasciano; his 7 great grandchildren; his siblings, Roland Veronneau; Arlene Boutot; Betty Veronneau; and Jeanne Leach; and his significant other, Sophia Lin; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Including his wife, Mariette, Marcel was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Gorman; and his brothers, Roger Veronneau and Paul Veronneau. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 26 at 10 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Anne, 515 South Main Street, Waterbury. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. A walk-through visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. Masks are required.
