Waterbury Julio "Jay" Crocco, Jr., 68, lost a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, June 25, 2017. He was the loving husband of Dawn (Hamel) Crocco, for 27 years. Jay was born in Waterbury, on January 7, 1949, to Julio C. Crocco, Sr. and the late Eleanora (Marzucca) Crocco. Raised in Wolcott, Jay was a graduate of Wolcott High School, where he holds the record for the 200 meter dash. He served honorably as a Sergeant in the Marines during the Vietnam War. Jay worked at the family business, Croccos Bakery, before he went on to work as a bread man for Wonder Bread. He enjoyed golf, and was a member of the Farmingbury Hills Mens Association. On Friday afternoons Jay could be found playing poker with the "guys" and cribbage on Saturday at East Street Eatery. He enjoyed hiking with friends where he discovered a passion for building rock formations. Including his wife, Dawn, and his father, Julio, Jay is survived by his brother, Thomas Crocco, of Wolcott; his sisters, Ellen Isaacson, of CA; and Debbie Lance, of Wolcott; his niece, Ashley; his nephews, John and Brian; his father in law and mother in law, Jack and Barb Hamel; his brothers in law, Jack and Rich Hamel; and sisters in law, Marcie and Karen Hamel. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 29, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. Burial will follow in Woodtick Cemetery will full Military Honors.
