Wolcott Mr. Joseph A. Poveromo, 86, passed away on Friday morning, November 27, at his home. He was the husband of Rose (Bianco) Poveromo.
Joseph was born March 15, 1934 in Blakely, PA, son of the late Sesto and Jennie (Nanni) Poveromo.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his children, Nikki Barbieri of Waterbury, Mark Poveromo and his wife Roxanne of York, ME, Joann DAngelo and her husband Richard of Wolcott and Joseph Poveromo and his wife Vickki of Naugatuck; two sisters, Ida Byram of Waterbury and Donna Adamski of St. Cloud, FL; his brother-in-law, Andrew Perrella of Middlebury and sister-in-law Carol Poveromo of Waterbury; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Hank Poveromo and his sister, Geraldine Perrella.
Joe married his Wilby High School sweetheart in 1954. After serving honorably in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Gilbert Islands, Joe brought his wife to live on base in Waukegan, Illinois where their first daughter was born. After his service he and Rose moved their family back to Waterbury where they lived until his retirement as a Maintenance Foreman at Uniroyal Chemical in 1996. Joe was an avid hunter, reader and diehard Red Sox and Patriots fan. He and Rose enjoyed their home in Port Charlotte, Florida and traveling with friends and family until their move to Wolcott. Joe will be remembered as a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and good friend. Joes family would like to thank Vitas and all the healthcare providers who cared for him over the years.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 4, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Leo the Great Church (Mary Mother of the Church Parish) 14 Bentwood Drive in Waterbury. Burial of cremains will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
