Obituary

Wolcott - Mr. Joseph J. Lango, Jr., 94 , of Wolcott, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marianne (Wrobel) Lango. Joseph was born on March 25, 1922 in Waterbury, son of the late Joseph J. Lango, Sr., and Margaret Jannetty. Joseph served honorably and proudly in the United States Army Airforce during World War II as an aircraft mechanic and later as a pilot flying reconnaissance missions over Germany during the Battle of the Buldge. He was highly decorated, earning the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, Croix Du Combatant (for interpreting in France) Expert Marksman medal, Good Conduct medal, U.S. Air Force Wings, and five Major Battle Stars. Upon his return to the United States, Joe started his automatic transmissions and used car business which he owned and operated for 70 years working until January of 2016. Joseph was also involved in local politics and served as Wolcotts First Selectman and Mayor over a 10 year span. During his time in Wolcott politics, Joe was responsible for the purchase of Farmingbury Golf Course and numerous other town improvements such as purchasing used school buses to be converted to a senior bus service, receiving grants for low income housing (Wolf Hill Apartments), and the construction of Tyrrell School. Joe also enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He will always be remembered for his ability to fix anything. Besides his wife Marianne, Joseph is survived by his daughters, Francine Harrison, Jenine Harrison, and Lee Earley and her fianc, Sean Allen, all of Wolcott; his granddaughter, Kate Earley; several nieces and nephews; and his extended family in North Carolina. He was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine Vitone; and his son Joseph J. Lango, III. Family and friends may call on Friday January 13, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank Mary and her staff at Xavier 3 at St. Marys Hospital and Vitas Hospice at Home for their love and care shown for Joseph.
