Wolcott - John Thomas Wynne, 74, died peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, October 18th at his home.
He was born to the late Joseph and Marjorie (Dix) Wynne, August 22, 1938, in New Britain, CT. He married the late Marcelle Drouin Wynne in 1958 and lived in Wolcott since 1963. He was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean War.
John retired as Operations Manager at The Employment Development Center in 2011. He worked in the transportation industry most of his life beginning with Lombard Brothers at the start of his career. He was a Terminal Manager for Willys Transportation in Waterbury and the Logistics Manager for III Logistics at Ryerson Steel, in Wallingford. He was a member of the Wolcott Volunteer Fire Department Company 3, The American Legion Post 0165 and sat on the Wolcott Civilian Police Review Board.
John was known for his backyard picnics which were never complete without a roaring bonfire. Family, holiday gatherings, horseshoes, fishing, cocktails and a good debate were his favorite pastimes. John still believed in the power of the pen and was well known for his letter writing. He took great pride in keeping his lawns and gardens in top condition and was very involved with his church, St. Maria Goretti Parish.
John is survived by his four children: Donna Johnson of Queensbury, NY, Jim Wynne of Watertown, CT, Phyllis Wynne of Oakville, CT, and Dan Wynne of Bristol, CT, eight grandchildren, Angela, Dana, Stephanie, Heather, Matthew, Jesse, Thomas, and Isaac, six great-grandchildren, Isabella, Victoria, Juliette, Ryan, Arianna and Brent, and his Robert Wynne of Venice, FL.
Friends and family are invited to gather at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, on Friday, October 26th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. A mass, military tribute and scattering service will be held on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 am at the St. Maria Goretti Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Maria Goretti Parish Center, 1300 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott, CT 06716.
