Obituary

Wolcott Mr. Jeremiah F. Fitzpatrick, 80, passed peacefully away on Thursday, December 24, at his home. Jerry was the husband of Mary Louise (Zipoli) Fitzpatrick. Mr. Fitzpatrick was born on May 30, 1940 in Waterbury, son of the late Patrick J. and Rose (Reno) Fitzpatrick. Raised in Waterbury, he attended local schools and was a 1958 graduate of Crosby High School, where he played varsity baseball, football, and band. He also played baseball while attending UCONN Waterbury and Storrs where he received his BA in History. Following his graduation from college, he began teaching language arts at Webster Elementary School. While at Webster, he received his MA at the University of Bridgeport and was also active in coaching boys basketball. Jerry was part of the first wave of teachers at the newly opened North End Middle School until his retirement in 1997. "Mr. Fitz'' as he was lovingly referred to by students, past and present would always call out to him when they would see him in public places. He would always make it a point to remember their names and faces and truly enjoyed speaking to them. Jerry was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church and will be remembered for his passion for gardening, attending UCONN Basketball games, a generous and kind nature, and his love and devotion to his wife and family. In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his children, Jeremiah Fitzpatrick and his wife Lynnette of Wolcott, Kevin Fitzpatrick and his wife Damaris of Waterbury, Michael Fitzpatrick and his wife Susan of Ithaca, NY and Kerri Frazier and her husband Mikhael of Wolcott; his sister, Patricia Lanese of Wolcott; seven grandchildren, Molly, Olive, Oona, Michael, Isla, Parker and Gillian and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, December 30, at 10:00 A.M. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury. Burial will follow in the Edgewood Cemetery in Wolcott.
