WOLCOTT ~ James F. Baggett, 90, of Wolcott, formerly of Lawrence MA, passed away on Sunday, September 4th 2011, with his family by his side.
Jim was born July 23, 1921 in Lawrence, MA. He was the oldest son to the late Joseph and Matilda (LeBlanc) Baggett. He was the loving Husband of Jeannette (Cordeau) Baggett for 67 years. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the US Navy and became a torpedo specialist on PT boat #344 seeing action in New Guinea, Halmaheras and the Philippines. He received the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic Paciffic Theatre Medal with three stars. After the war he was employed by Bond Bread in Lawrence, MA later moving to Connecticut in 1960 to work at Merit Oil as a regional Manager. Jim retired from Continental Baking Company in 1987. He became a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, an active member of the local teamsters union #677 and served as a shop steward and secretary of the retired Teamsters for over 20 years. He was also employed by the Town of Wolcott as a General Assistance Administrator in which he was able to obtain a grant for the Senior Center. Jim also was a life time member of the VFW Post #1979.
He enjoyed his time as he was a crossword fanatic, avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing, always cheering for #17 Matt Kenseth and #99 Carl Edwards.
Besides his loving wife, Jeannette of 67 years, he is survived by three daughters, Lynne Dziezynski and her husband Dave of Wolcott, Janis Shihab and her husband Adlai of Plano, TX, Terry Soucey and her husband Al of Wolcott, four grandchildren, Amy Dziezynski Karls and her husband Michael of North Grafton, MA, James Dziezynski of Boulder, CO, Ashley Shihab of Dallas, TX, Austin Shihab of Houston, TX, two brothers, William and Francis Baggett, both of New Hampshire, a sister Margaret Szostak of Massachusetts, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by a sister, Rita Kleponis.
Jim will be sadly missed by all of his furry friends, Sophie, Choppie, Ace, Molly, Ranger, Sweat Pea, Sugar, Spunky and Precious.
Arrangements: Family and friends may join on Thursday at 9am at Woodtick Memorial to proceed to St. Pius X Church for A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on at 10am. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery in Wolcott. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to, St. Judes Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
