Port Charlotte, FL Mr. George J. Kelley, 85, formerly of County Rd., Wolcott, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on September 15, 2011. . George was born on March 11, 1926 in Waterbury and raised by Ed and Margaret (Hirleman) Marchand. He was the beloved husband to Bernice (Benoit) Kelley for 61 years.
George was a Korean and WWII veteran, serving with the US Navy. He was very active in the Wolcott community, at one time a coach for the Little League, was involved with the cub scouts and served on the Building Committee and Zoning Board. George worked for the Arbor Homes as a construction foreman and then became a property manger for Urban Renewal in Waterbury. He found enjoyment as an avid baseball fan.
Besides his wife Bernice, he is survived by his children, Richard Kelley of Wolcott, James Kelley of Waterbury, Maureen Holland of Wolcott, Lori Morrissen of Bethlehem, twelve grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Arrangements: A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 P.M at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Calling Hours will be from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will be private.
