Wolcott - Mr. Dale Fowler "Pops" "Papa" McSwyny, 74, of Wolcott, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at St. Marys Hospital after a long courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was the husband of 51 years to Mrs. Janice (Brooks) McSwyny. Dale was born on June 30, 1940 in Bennington, Vermont, son of the late Fowler Francis McSwyny and Marjorie (McSwyny) Crasa. Dale served honorably and proudly in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. After the war, Dale worked for many years as a Quality Inspector at Pratt and Whitney. Changing careers to a Wolcott Police Officer, Dale retired from the Police Department after 17 years. He then worked as a Tool and Die Maker at Apex Tool and Die in Farmington. He also was a long time member of the Wolcott Congregational Church and the NRA. Dale loved cooking, reading, gardening and cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. Besides his wife, Dale is survived by his three children, Dawn Olsen and her husband Jeffrey, Dale McSwyny and his wife Cynthia, and Erin Mullin and her husband Stephen, all of Wolcott; his brother, Richard Gardiner McSwyny of Naples, FL; five grandchildren, Courtney, Shannon and Paige McSwyny, and Michael and Sarah Olsen; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank everyone at the Veterans Hospital West Haven, especially Dr Volpe; and all the nurses at VITAS Healthcare for the love and compassion shown to Dale through his battle with Lewy Body Dementia. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Wolcott Congregational Church, 185 Center Street, Wolcott. Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Church. Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dales name to either the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or the Disabled Veterans National Foundation at www.dvnf.org.
