Waterbury - Mr. Andrew G. Hamel, 88, of Waterbury, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rachel (Poirier) Hamel. Andrew was born on April 03, 1927 in Waterbury, son of the late Eugene and Flora (Ricard) Hamel. He served honorably and proudly in the United States Navy and was a longtime member of the American Legion. Andrew is survived by three sons, Robert Hamel and his wife Marsha, Leo Hamel and his wife Tamara, and Roger Hamel; two daughters, Diane Hamel and her wife Heidi Eccleston, and Cindy Schulte and her husband Eddie; four brothers and sisters, Lucien Hamel, Giselle McNamara, Rita Lacombe, Jean Theroux and Richard Hamel; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Terri Lagasse. Family and friends may call on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, August 24 at 10:00 A.M. at the Shrine of St. Annes, 515 S. Main St, Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
