Obituary

WATERBURY ~ Mildred "Millie" Smith, 78, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 in Waterbury. She was the widow of John Charles Smith, Jr. Millie was born March 22, 1933 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Daniel and Theresa Mae Anzivine. She retired from Airpax in Cheshire after 20 years of service. She was active at Mill Plain Union Church, the Mill Plain Union Church Ladies Guild, the Wolcott Senior Center, the Prospect Senior Center and the Red Hat Society. She always attended the Prospect Senior Centers monthly breakfasts, and their holiday parties. Millie enjoyed poetry and was known for writing poems for marriages, birthdays and other occasions. She loved doing arts and crafts and traveling was much a part of her life as her late husband, John served in the Navy for 23 years. Millie was not a lady to sit around ~ she liked to get out, take bus trips and attend concerts. Being a nature lover, it was not surprising she was a member of the Naturalist Club. Millie leaves her daughters, Faith Vicinanza of Wolcott and Dawn Tomberlin, and her husband, Lester of Jacksonville, FL, her grandchildren, Michael, Aaron and Christina Arroyo, and 5 great grandchildren, her half sister, Esther Auchmoody of West Haven, and her companion, Vincent Semprini of Waterbury. She was predeceased by her son, Wayne Smith. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 10 am at Mill Plain Union Church, 242 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury followed by a reception at the church hall. Woodtick Memorial has been entrusted with Millies arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, P.O. Box 1503, Waterbury, CT 06721.
