Obituary

Chester ~ Mrs. Mildred (Millie) P. Malagutti, 95, formerly of Waterbury and Old Saybrook, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at The Chesterfields Health Care Center. Seven years ago she became the widow to Albert Malagutti after 59 wonderful years of marriage. Mildred was born in Waterbury on March 22, 1917, she was the daughter to the late George and Maude (Midgley) Pfurr. Millie was a lifelong member of The Mill Plain Union Church in Waterbury and resided in Waterbury all her life before moving to Old Saybrook in 2006 when she resided with her daughter Barbara and son in law, Richard. Mildred was an honor student in both, Chase grammar and Wilby High School. During the years she worked she was downtown at the "Kings Kitchen" in the Elton Hotel and Woolworths during the depression, she also worked at the Hemingway Box Co. and was last employed at Lerners. Millie loved animals. From birds to squirrels to the many stray cats and dogs who passed through her yard, all were given a good home. She also loved working in her flower gardens, going to the beach, living in Old Saybrook and a little picnic was always good so she could be with her family that she loved dearly. Often times she worked on crossword puzzles. She leaves her children, Kenneth Malagutti of Waterbury, Diane Russo and her husband Richard of Old Saybrook, Roger Malagutti and his wife Lynda of Prospect, Barbara Elliott and her husband Richard of Old Saybrook, her grandchildren, Michael Russo and his wife Jennifer of Prospect, Jeffrey Elliott and his wife Tammy of Wolcott, Jason Malagutti and his wife Melissa of Watertown, Steven Malagutti of Watertown, her great grandchildren are Anthony and Alyssa Russo, Noah, Nathan and Emma Elliott, Makayla and Madison Malagutti. Also she leaves a cousin Eleanor Hackett of Waterbury, a niece Nancy Vanoli of NY, and a nephew, Richard Pfurr of Cheshire. Millie became a good friend to her roommate Mary and will be sadly missed by many. She was predeceased by her brothers, Harold, George and Edward Pfurr. The family would like to recognize the staff at The Chesterfields and Middlesex Hospital Hospice that cared for Mildred as if she was their family. They showed such compassion and love with their care that was given to her. Arrangements-Family and friends may call from 9:00 am until 10:30am on Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott, Ct. The funeral service will be held from 10:30 am until 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Indian Hill Cemetery in Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Terryville Animal Rescue, a no-kill shelter, 46 West Main St., Terryville CT 06786.
