WOLCOTT Mrs. Mary Margaret "Peggy" (Powers) Ziomek, 79, of Wolcott, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, surrounded by her three loving daughters, at The Summit at Plantsville. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Ziomek for 48 years.
Mary was born in Hinesburg, VT., on April 5, 1944, daughter of the late Harold and Mildred (Shackett) Powers. She moved to Wolcott as a child and was in the first graduating class of Wolcott High School in 1962.
She worked at New Departure in Bristol for 25 years and was fortunate to retire at the age of 50. That allowed her to enjoy many years of retirement with Richard in Florida and Rhode Island. They loved camping, boating, fishing and motorcycling and made countless special friends along the way. Mary and Richard lived in Wolcott since 1965, and they were founding members of St. Maria Goretti Church, where they were parishioners for many years. Mary was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Firehouse Company 2 in Wolcott, where Richard was a fireman.
Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are her three daughters, Patricia and her husband Jerome Albino of Bristol, Michelle "Shelly" and her husband Mark Bove of Wolcott, Christine and her husband Stephen Dunn Sr. of Wolcott; six grandchildren, Christina and Jerome Albino, Jessica (Vincenzo) Parziale, Mark (Bethany) Bove, Dr. Stephen Jr. and Meghan Dunn; and her cherished great-grandchildren Rocco and Ava Parziale, Eleanor and Luke Bove. She also leaves three brothers, Thomas and his wife Eileen Shea of Bristol, Patrick Powers of Florida, Dennis and his wife Julie Powers of Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Lawrence Shea, Harold Powers, Kathleen Hoadley, Corrine Ray, and James Powers.
